The arrival of Sidcup's own Santa often delights many a resident as he tours the streets with his band of merry elves, collecting money for charity.

However, this year Santa's sleigh has received an upgrade in the form of a new satellite tracking system so that children can track his progress and even see when he is in their road.

The annual event, organised by the Sidcup Rotary Club, raised more than £13,000 for a number of local, national and international charities last year - with organisers hoping to smash that figure this year.

Club president Gerry Packman said: "We are so pleased to be organising this event again. It is an important part of our fundraising calendar and brings joy, not only to the children but our own club members who turn out in elf outfits every year whatever the weather.

"The sleigh is all lit up and Christmas music will be played. Santa will be there with a cheery wave for everyone and sweets for the children.

"A huge number of charities in the borough, and nationally and internationally will benefit."
