Police investigating the attack on two police officers in South Wimbledon have made a second arrest.

Just before 8pm on Saturday, November 17, the constables stopped a car in Kingswood Road for a routine check.

The three occupants then ran off. The officers managed to detain a 20-year-old man before the other two suspects returned and the officers were assaulted.

A video posted on Twitter by Guildford City Football Club captain Nehemiah Adam showed one suspect fly-kick an officer, while the other constable was being wrestled to the ground.

The two officers were taken to a west London hospital. A female officer sustained head injuries and a male officer suffered cuts. He is also believed to have sustained a fractured rib. Both officers have been discharged from hospital.

Martin Payne, 20, Brighton Road in South Croydon was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged assault causing ABH and assault on an emergency services worker.

He appeared in Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Monday and has been remanded in custody to appear at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, December 14.

Yesterday, (November 20), a second 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody at a south-west London police station.

Detectives from the South West Command Unit are investigating.

Police are still on teh hunt for a third man in connection with the attack.
