More than a dozen new trees have popped up in Morden and there is a very good reason why.
Last week volunteers gathered at Morden Recreational Park to plant 14 new trees, but they won't be there forever.
They will remain at the park for the new few years to mature before being replanted on High Path.
Tim Sargeant, who is in charge of Clarion Housing’s Merton regeneration project, said: “This enhancement of the local ecology forms part of our £1bn investment in Merton.
"Over the next 12 years we aim to build 2,800 new energy-efficient homes on High Path, Eastfields and Ravensbury as well as creating two new parks and planting hundreds of trees.
“It was very encouraging to see local people and businesses give their time and come together for a worthwhile cause.
"The day was a real community effort, with the timber and nails being donated free of charge by Champion Timber. Everyone’s huge effort will contribute towards beautiful landscaped streets for all to enjoy.”
In March 2018 Merton Council approved plans for around 2,800 new homes across High Path, Eastfields and Ravensbury
