Thousands of people in Merton dealing with depression aren't seeking help.
NHS commissioners in the borough have introduced new talking therapy services to try and help those at risk.
Dr Andrew Otley, Merton GP and Merton Clinical Commissioning Group clinical director for mental health said: “Over 24,000 Merton residents are thought to have depression or anxiety.
“GPs in Merton have identified just over 12,000 people with depression, which indicates there is more to do to make sure Merton residents get the treatment they need.
“World Mental Health Day is a great opportunity for us all to be thinking about our mental wellbeing. If you feel like you’re not coping, professional support can really help.
“There are lots of different ways to speak to someone in Merton for free through the NHS - at a time and in a way that works for you.”
The talking therapy sessions will hope to provide those who need it can speak to someone within seven days.
