A new “interim interim CEO” has been appointed at Kingston while the interim CEO recovers from an operation.
Gill Steward, who has experience leading other councils, will support the rest of Kingston’s leadership team as they share the responsibilities of the recovering Roy Thompson.
Ms Steward left her job as chief executive of Bexley Council in July this year, just months after the local elections.
A Kingston Council spokeswoman emphasised that the council has not hired a second interim CEO to replace Mr Thompson or share his job, but that Ms Steward would be supporting the current leadership team.
The spokeswoman said: “Due to health reasons, the responsibilities of the current interim CEO Roy Thompson are being picked up by members of the council’s permanent leadership team for a period of six weeks.
“Gill Steward has been brought on board, three days a week, to support the leadership team during this time.
“We wish Roy a speedy recovery and look forward to his return. The process the recruit a permanent CEO continues in the meantime.”
