It has been a long time coming, but the multi-million pound project to revamp Mitcham town centre has now been completed.

Rediscover Mitcham, which started back in 2014, is a £6.2m Merton Council project designed to improve the Fair Green area.

Changes have included the addition of new bus and cycle lanes in London Road, which the council said would "drive footfall" and reduce bus journey times and the relocation and restoration of the clock tower tot he east side of the green.

Merton Council Leader Councillor Stephen Alambritis was excited to see the new look area.

"We are very proud of the successful completion of the Rediscover Mitcham which has provided the town with great public spaces and improved traffic flow," he said.

"Having a new bus and cycle street will increase footfall from the shops in the area, increasing their trade and improving local economy, making it a place where people want to live and visit.
