Life could soon be brought back into Colliers Wood's now closed Toys R Us.

But those childhood memories won't be coming back

Instead, a planning application has been submitted to redesign the Priory Retail Park store into a new Aldi.

The developers believe that, if approved, Aldi would be able to "improve the vitality of the area" and "uplift the existing building.

"There is an opportunity to provide a development that will prove beneficial for the local community by continued use of retail units providing employment and which will increase the food shop choice within the area and can be reached by existing sustainable transport links," a document attached to the application read.

Currently the closest Aldi's to Colliers Wood are in Tooting Broadway, New Malden and South Norwood.

"The proposal will enhance convenience goods provision in the local area, affording local residents a greater choice of convenience shopping facilities," the application read.

"It will provide an additional discount foodstore and promote competition between operators."

And the supermarket giant isn't wasting any time trying to recruit as people have taken to social media, saying they have spotted adverts for new staff.
