A Mitcham teacher has returned from the Commonwealth Games a hero after being part of the first ever Jamaican lawn bowls team.
No, it's not the long-awaited Cool Runnings sequel.
This time is is real life and stars Lonesome Primary School’s support staff member Andrew Newell and an upstart crew of bowlers.
Mr Newell's dream was to create the first ever Jamaican team to play lawn bowls in an international competition, and he achieved that when the group took part in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Mr Newell's campaign got off to a rocky start, losing back to back singles matches to Kenya and New Zealand.
The next day he was pitted against England's number one (and third ranked in the world).
In true dramatic fashion, Mr Newell came out on top to give Jamaica its first ever win in the sport of lawn bowls.
He won one more match before making his way back home earlier this month.
