A chemical spill from a leaking fridge in a building on Leopold Road has resulted in the road being closed off and twenty people being evacuated.
Emergency services including police and the London Fire Brigade were called to reports of a smell of chemicals this morning.
London Fire Brigade brought specialist crews in to sweep the area of the building, removing the fridge and ventilating the premises.
A spokeswoman from the London Fire Brigade said: “We were called at 9.12 am to reports of a smell of chemicals on Leopold Road in Wimbledon.
“Specialist crews carried out a sweep of the building and removed the fridge and the premises have been ventilated.
“20 people were evacuated from surrounding properties and crews are still standing by.”
Currently one fire engine and a specialist crew are still in at the scene.
