Nothing beats a pint in a sundrenched beer garden, so the Wimbledon Guardian has compiled some of the loveliest places in Merton to enjoy the warm spell.

The Loft - 33 Wimbledon Hill Road

Wimbledon Times:

Up a staircase hidden next to The Alexandra pub, you'll find The Loft rooftop bar. Great for people watching on Wimbledon Broadway, the bar has space on it's terrace and balcony for peering over to the street below. There's tables inside if you're already feeling a little sunburnt from the bank holiday.

The Merton Apprentice - Watermill Way, Merton Abbey Mills

Wimbledon Times:

Set up in the historic Apprentice Shop of Merton Abbey Mills, the bar specialises in locally brewed craft beers, both on draught and in bottles. The Merton Apprentice is a useful stop off for walkers on the Wandle Trail, a route that follows the River Wandle from Wandsworth through to Croydon.

Dog & Fox - 24 High Street Wimbledon

Wimbledon Times:

The outdoor area of the Dog & Fox in Wimbledon Village may not be the largest, but may come in useful if you're trying to enjoy one of the pub's Sunday lunches on a warm day. Situated in the heart of the village since the 1800's, the pub come hotel come restaurant is a Wimbledon staple.

Hand in Hand - 6 Crooked Billet, Wimbledon Common

Wimbledon Times:

Right on the edge of the Common, Hand in Hand is the perfect spot to rehydrate after whiling away some hours in the sunshine. If you're a dog-owner, or enjoy looking at other people's dogs, Hand in Hand could be ideal for you. Inside, diners can enjoy a meal in the old oven area, as the building once was a bakery.

The Leather Bottle - 538 Garratt Lane Earlsfield

Wimbledon Times:

Not to be confused with a pub of the same name on Kingston Road, this pub in Earlsfield has been a fixture of Garratt Lane for the last 300 years. Enjoy the option of al fresco dining in its grassy garden. For special occasions, hire one of the shacks, which come fully kitted out with heaters, an outdoor BBQ and bar, and televisions.

Rose & Crown - 55 High Street Wimbledon

Wimbledon Times:

A stone's throw from Wimbledon Common, the Rose & Crown is also a short walk to Wimbledon's famous tennis courts. The outside area is even tennis themed, to get you in the mood for the upcoming Championships. Over the Wimbledon tennis fortnight, the "Wimbledon Marquee" is put up in the car park, and used for live music and other events for tennis-goers to enjoy.

William Morris - 20 Watermill Way

Wimbledon Times:

William Morris, with its unique riverside terrace and beer garden right on the River Wandle, is also in Merton Abbey Mills. William Morris serves up real ale on tap and a home-cooked British menu.

The Garden Shed - 145 Haydons Rd

Wimbledon Times:

Located by Haydons Road Recreation Ground, The Garden Shed is the natural place to gravitate toward without having to move inside. It has a large garden bar and light-catching conservatory, and live music on Fridays and Saturdays.

Wandle Pirates - 16 Watermill Way

Wimbledon Times:

Featuring an actual pirate ship, the nautical-themed Wandle Pirates could be a good one for the kids during a trip to Merton Abbey Mills. The family-run business also has an extensive range of rums, in tribute to its swashbuckling outdoor area.
