Volunteers are celebrating a fundraising milestone after bringing in £42,000 in five years for Marie Curie.

The Epsom and Ewell branch of the charity have held a Zumbathon, pub quizzes and regular collections, which has helped pay for more than 2,100 hours of hands-on nursing care for people living with a terminal illness.

The fundraising group have organised and attended dozens of events over the years, including the Epsom Family Fun Day.

Their collections in February and March this year alone raised more than £5,000 as part of Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal.

Emily Akeroyd, community fundraiser for Marie Curie said: “I am incredibly proud of the volunteers in the Epsom and Ewell Fundraising Group and can’t thank them enough for their huge efforts in raising such a fantastic amount for Marie Curie.

"The money raised by the fundraising group has provided more than 230 night shifts, that’s up to 230 families that have had the support of a Marie Curie nurse at one of the scariest times of their lives thanks to the dedication of these wonderful volunteers.”
