Labour has held onto a Mitcham seat vacated by Peter Walker who resigned in protest at cuts to adult social care.
Today it was announced that former council leader Mike Brunt from Labour has been elected as the Figge’s Marsh new ward councillor with 74 per cent of the vote.
A by-election was called in Figge’s Marsh ward in Mitcham at the end of March following the resignation of former councillor, Peter Walker.
Mr Brunt was Dundonald ward councillor from 1990 to 2002 and leader of the council from 1997 to 1999.
He had a clear majority after voters went to the polls yesterday.
London will find out who the new Mayor and new London Assembly candidates are before long.
