Children of Morden were treated to a half-term musical masterclass that saw them record and perform their own songs.

Young musicians aged eight to 14 years-old penned their own songs before recording them and performing them as part of the two-day workshop on Monday and Tuesday, writes Iqbal Johal.

The music was published on website Soundcloud for them to share with their friends.

The Be Creative group at the Crown Lane Studio

The short course was held at the Crown Lane Studio, Morden, which was run by Merton-based Be Creative and organised by Merton Active Plus.

Its course leader Phil Merriman, 29, said: "They were of a brilliant standard from different musical backgrounds, even the ones with no real experience in song writing and recording.

“We had one child who is a drummer write a heavy metal song so we let them get on with the area they are interested them in, instead of forcing them into something.

“It really is exciting to see the children come to the classes with their own ideas and watch their confidence and skill grow throughout the day.”
