A Wimbledon police officer who was charged with voyeurism just two weeks after being cleared of sexually assaulting a prostitute has admitted secretly filming his intimate encounters with sex workers.

PC Irshad Kamal, 46, was originally arrested in November 2014 and charged with sexually assaulting and stalking a prostitute after she posted his details on an ‘Ugly Mugs’ website to warn sex workers about him.

Kamal was found not guilty of sexual assault on September 29 2015, and he was charged with six counts of voyeurism by recording a person doing a private act just two weeks later on October 16.

He pleaded guilty to three of the voyeurism charges, alleged to have occurred between October 2009 and April 2014, at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, January 29.

In his original trial in September, Kamal was accused of grabbing the sex worker’s breasts in a public place, calling and texting her hundreds of times and loitering outside her house.

The woman told the Old Bailey that Kamal would be “pawing at breasts, pulling at hair, putting his hands around your throat”, and described one incident when he attempted to shove a used condom in her face, telling her “I am paying you, you do what I want.”

He denied the sexual assault and stalking charges against him and was suspended from duty at Wimbledon police station.

A jury at the Old Bailey found Kamal not guilty of sexual assault on September 29 2015, but were unable to agree on whether he had stalked her.

He was acquitted of the stalking charge on Friday, January 22, after the prosecution failed to offer any evidence at a pre-trial hearing, but was served with a restraining order by the judge.

He has been bailed until his sentencing on Monday, February 29, on the condition that he stays at his home address in Bramfield Road, Wandsworth, and does not contact sex workers.
