A "fake" fundraising page set up in memory of murdered Daniel Young has been suspended by cyber crime police investigating its origins.

The murder squad detective leading the investigation told readers not to donate to the page yesterday because the family had no knowledge of it and they did not know the person who set it up.

A Metropolitan police spokeswoman said today that an investigation by the Met's cyber crime unit is ongoing and any donations made to the page would be automatically refunded.

Detectives are looking into whether it was a random stabbing, but Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons said yesterday it had the hallmarks of an unprovoked and unsuspected attack.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Daniel Young in Kendor Gardens, Morden, yesterday.

Another man has been released on bail until early March while investigations into the murder and a stabbing in Lewis Road, Mitcham, establish whether they are are linked. 

Police also withheld exactly how Mr Young died.

A postmortem examination revealed he died of a stab wound but detectives said they were not revealing where on his body he was stabbed on Tuesday morning.
