Two men remain in hospital and six have been bailed after an alleged murder of a man involved in an axe fight.

A 26-year-old man, who has still not been formally identified, died as a result of serious injuries sustained in mass brawl in Mitcham town centre on Monday night.

Detectives launched a murder investigation on Wednesday night after the man died in hospital having suffered serious head injuries.

A post-mortem examination will be organised in due course. His next of kin have been informed but formal identification has not taken place.

Unconfirmed reports suggest there were between 30 and 40 men of Tamil origin involved in the brawl in the Holborn Way area.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, November, 24, on suspicion of attempted murder.

Five men aged 34, 21, 37, 40, and 27, were arrested on Monday, November 23, on suspicion of violent disorder.

They were taken to custody suites at various south London police stations where they were interviewed.

The six men have now been bailed to return to south London police stations early December.

Detectives from the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.
