A small act of kindness will mean refugees will be welcomed to the borough this autumn.
Children from Abbotsbury Primary School in Morden collected toiletries and food to donate to those in need as part of their harvest festival because they wanted them to feel welcomed and comfortable as the colder nights draw in.
The donations, pictured above, will now be making their way to refugees already living in Merton, as well as donating to the Merton Food Bank.
School council member Yoana Georgieva, nine, said: "We wanted refugees to feel welcome and comfortable.
"Lots of people have been kind to us so we wanted to be kind to the refugees."
The pupils were inspired to collect for refugees after watching the documentary We Walk Together, which follows the journey of a Syrian family leaving Syria.
Headteacher Rowena Maybury, said: "As ever I am amazed by the love and generosity shown by our children and their families towards those less fortunate than themselves."
Merton Council’s cabinet member for children’s services Councillor Maxi Martin went along to the school with head of department Yvette Stanley.
