When will this be sorted? That is the exasperated plea of a mother who has witnessed yet another van get stuck under a problem bridge.

Amanda Bearman and her four year-old daughter were walking along Lower Downs Road, Raynes Park this morning when they narrowly avoided being hit by falling fence panels.

It is the latest in a long line of vans, lorries and trailers that have got stuck underneath the bridge which has a seven foot height restriction which is clearly labelled.

This time the van was travelling north along the road at about 11.45am and became wedged before scraping its way through to the other side.

Ms Bearman said she was shaken by the crash and has reported it to Network Rail and local councillors.

She said: "I'm pretty shaken, I can't believe it's happened again.

"He managed to scrape his way through, causing more damage to his vehicle.

"I shouted to him but he said he didn't hear."

Ms Bearman alerted the authorities to previous collisions and had a meeting as far back as November to discuss how to improve safety there.

She said collision beams would help because they are set up ahead of the entrance to show how high the gap is, alerting drivers to potential problems before it is too late.
