1,500 young music stars sold out the Royal Albert Hall last night for a special concert celebrating the musical talent of Merton.
The youngest singer was aged just five years-old, and took to the stage alongside a total of 1,500 other singers and musicians of all ages from schools and community organisations in Merton.
The evening began with a moving rendition of You’re the Voice which lifted the roof off the Royal Albert Hall according to John Mander, Merton Music Foundation’s chief executive.
The foundation, based in Morden, organised the Music is for Life event which takes place every two years.
The second half of the performance mixed drama with the Merton Youth Jazz Orchestra and the foundation’s string section and choir to produce a play created from stories developed in schools over the last six months.
Choirs including the Wimbledon Community Chorus, Inspire Choir and the parent’s choir from Holy Trinity CofE Primary School took to the stage as well.
Mr Mander said: "It was a stunning event.
"I would like to thank everyone for coming to support what was such a stunning event for the musicians of Merton."
Some people took to Twitter to congratulate the young stars after the performance on Tuesday, April 21.
