With council services facing ever deeper cuts, councillor Andrew Judge is to be applauded for raising the issue of Merton residents paying £1.2m a year to support the Lee Valley Regional Park (Wandle Valley deserves investment, February 19).
This is a recreational facility on the opposite side of London which is far from accessible to Merton residents. Indeed how many of us can say we have ever been there?
Contributions from all London boroughs may have been justified to rejuvenate this industrial corridor back in the mid-60s, but all the major improvements must have been completed years ago, and if Councillor Judge were to raise a petition to end this anomaly I am sure many in the borough would sign it.
