A new service to support adult patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and diagnostic autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has been commissioned by a health group.
The service will be delivered by South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust from the Wilson Hospital in Mitcham, and is designed to cut down on travel time and waiting times for patients who normally would have to travel to other parts of London.
Merton CCG has invested an extra £255,000 in the existing psychological therapies services, which provides support for people with conditions like depression, anxiety and eating disorders.
Dr Andrew Otley, clinical lead for mental health at Merton CCG, said: "Improving mental health services is one of our top priorities and we’re delighted we can put extra funding into psychological therapies services for Merton residents, as well as launching a new service for ADHD."
A CCG spokesperson said people can be referred to the service through their doctor, their health visitor or other health and social professionals.
The trust also accepts self-referrals from patients and the quickest route for self-referral is via the website.
