Children can get stuck into reading after the launch of a new library by a children’s author.
Young pupils at the Bishop Gilpin Church of England Primary School are celebrating the new library funded by the parent teacher association.
Best-selling children’s author Caroline Lawrence was on hand to cut the giant ribbon at the school in Lake Road, Wimbledon, to the delight of youngsters.
The Battersea-based writer said: "It was a huge honour to be chosen by Bishop Gilpin to open its new library and to be the author of the month.
“Books are more than adventure machines, they take us inside the hearts and minds of different types of people, and that is how we learn empathy."
It was officially opened on Wednesday, December 17, before a group of enthusiastic pupils who were excited to meet a real author.
Headteacher Matt Ball said: "I am so proud of the way our community has worked together to create this amazing library.
“We want all our children to develop their love of reading and hope the excitement generated by the launch will continue to inspire them."
