Britain's second highest law officer has blocked an appeal against a community order sentence handed to a black belt paedophile who carried out multiple sex offences against a teenager.

The bid was made after Eric Stokes, who rented space to run classes at Holistic Fitness Studios in Wimbledon Broadway, was convicted last month of eight counts of indecent assault against a girl over a four year-long period in the 1990s.

Stokes, 53, who is a black belt in mixed martial arts, admitted all the charges relating to the girl who was under 16 years-old at the time of the offences, between August 9, 1994 and August 10, 1995, on Thursday, November 6.

In addition to the community order given to Stokes, who lives in Mitcham, he must sign the sex offenders register for five years and be supervised for two years.

Solicitor General Robert Buckland QC MP concluded on Friday it would not be right to refer the sentence to the appeal court as he did not believe the appeal judges would increase it.
