A much-loved clock tower has been dismantled to undergo a makeover thanks to Lottery funding.
The Grade II listed Mitcham clock tower was built in 1898 to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and has stood in the town centre since 1990.
Following a £45,000 Heritage Lottery Fund grant the clock face will be repainted and the drinking fountain supplied with water once again.
Councillor Andrew Judge, cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration said: "The clock tower is an iconic symbol for Mitcham.
"It will be wonderful to see it working again and fully restored to its former glory."
The clock tower was dismantled for repair on Thursday, November 20, as part of the council’s £6.2 million investment into Mitcham town centre.
The clock will be reinstalled in Fair Green and is due be unveiled to the public in the first half of 2015.
