Merton Council leader Stephen Alambritis is being disingenuous: there is no need for more powers to ban problem drinkers, it is covered by existing legislation.
Remember Labour under Tony Blair introduced lots of repressive legislation in the guise of anti-terrorist legislation which suddenly was used for activities far beyond the remit claimed.
Perhaps we can have a legal guarantee that this legislation will not be abused? I expect abuse will occur.
