British Summer Time brings some of the world’s biggest music stars to Hyde Park over its 10 day tenure.

Kicking off this weekend, even torrential rain could not put a dampener on the atmosphere with sets from the likes of Jamie XX, Kendrick Lamar and Florence and the Machine wowing crowds.

Wimbledon Times:

Here's what we learnt.

1. Headliner Florence Welsh does not want to see people on their phones.

This was the band’s triumphant last show after 18 months on tour and Welsh pleaded with the crowd to put down their phones and enjoy the moment.

She said her time on tour had shown her she was on her phone too much.

She told the crowd: "Instead of looking at where I was, I was looking at my phone so, I was wondering, if for one song we could all put our phones away.

"Don't be the guy filming."

Wimbledon Times:

2. The BST crowd helped the headliner get over some “heartbreak”.

As an introduction to You Got the Love, Welsh said she’s been feeling “a bit heartbroken recently” but added she had felt “so much love” at the festival.

"I see so much love in each and every one of you. The love you have here I see so clearly, take it out there with you."

3. Everyone loves Kendrick Lamar

Storm clouds loomed over the festival as Lamar took to the stage.

But the rain and clouds didn't faze him or his fans.

The Compton rapper drew a crowd as large as Florence and the Machine and was one of the most tweeted about acts of the day.

4. Kendrick Lamar was warming up for the President.

The American rapper did not get to enjoy London’s nightlife after performing hits from third album To Pimp a Butterfly.

Instead Lamar let slip he would be straight on a plane back to the US so he could perform for Barak Obama at the White House’s Fourth of July barbecue.

5. Rain or shine, Jamie XX can get a crowd going

A  mixture of blistering heat and torrential rain could not stop the BST crowd enjoying themselves during Jamie XX.

The DJ's mix of house beats, dubstep and drum and bass kept the crowd dancing.

Music fans still have headline sets from the likes of Mumford & Sons, Take That, Stevie Wonder and Pharrell Williams to look forward to.
