Scottish comedian and former BBC Radio Scotland presenter, Fred MacAulay will perform in Teddington this month in his first tour since 2012.

Fred’s new material looks to his family life at home, sporting events recently held in Scotland, such as the Ryder Cup and the Commonwealth Games, and the aftermath of the 2014 referendum.

After 18 years at BBC Radio Scotland, his tour of England will take him to Landmark Arts, Teddington.

When I asked whether he has easily adjusted to the transition between radio and stand up, he joked: “I have a lot of time on my hands. I spend every morning calling up PPI companies just to pester them.”

Fred is a regular performer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, making his 27th appearance this year.

“I’ve always considered myself as a stand-up who has a radio show,” he said.

“I’ve been doing stand up for 27 years, I really love being back on the road.”

Fred has appeared on several TV panel shows, including Mock the Week, QI, and Have I Got News for You and would love to do more.

“It’s just such a laugh,” he said. “I would love to do more QI especially.”

Jokingly describing his comedic style as “somewhere between Frankie Boyle and Ronnie Corbett,” Fred is thrilled with how his new material has been received.

“It is a great feeling to get laughs," he said.

"They are all really going for it, even if I am talking about people in Scotland”

Fred added that Scottish topics, such as the 2014 referendum, went down well with his English audiences.

Fred, who presented MacAulay and Co on BBC Radio Scotland until the end of 2014, will still work on programmes for the radio station.

Having participated in charity challenges for Comic Relief, lasting seven out of 11 nights in Comic Relief Does Fame Academy! Fred also kayaked the Caledonian Canal, in temperatures reaching -18 Celsius, for Sports Relief.

He presented several programmes for the BBC, including McCoist and MacAulay, Life According to Fred and Simply red, along with appearing as a guest on Radio 4 panel shows such as I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, Just a Minute and The Unbelievable Truth.
