Young at Heart Painting: An exhibition of Artworks at Blackham House There will be an exciting opportunity this February for all art lovers to see some wonderful pieces at Blackham House in Wimbledon. Blackham House is a sheltered housing scheme for persons over 55years of age in Wimbledon, managed by C&C Housing Trust. The communal area of the scheme will be transformed into a gallery space by a display of sixteen individual acrylic paintings made by residents living at Blackham House. The paintings reference art history, landscape, abstract and still life studies, each piece portraying the wonderful diverse nature of the group and showcasing their individual and collective interests.

The artworks on display have been created over a period of five months, with a group of keen residents regularly attending a class led by artist Freya Douglas Morris. Freya is a graduate of the Royal College of Art. She has had recent shows at Bloomberg New Contemporaries, Saatchi Gallery and MOT International. Please see http://www.freyadouglas-morris.co.uk/ for more information.

Jean Dodd Scheme Manager at Blackham House has noticed the benefits of the class and commented, “ you have no idea how much it has benefited the tenants , it something they all look forward to and even taken their work home to finish it. There is a real buzz around the place at the moment.” Mary Jacobs (relative) has noticed how the class is bringing together the residents through conversation, the class being as much about friendship, as it is art. The private view will be opened officially at 3pm on February 18th 2015 and all are very welcome to attend!
