Mayhem Musical Theatre Company are set to bring Shakespeare’s classic tale of magical mischief to the open air splendour of Wimbledon’s Cannizaro Park.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream features runaway lovers, feuding fairies and a band of comical tradesman, all of whom find themselves transformed in the most unlikely ways in Shakespeare’s most popular and enduring comedy.

Director, Elinor Morgan Jones, is looking forward to bringing this classic tale alive in the open air at Cannizaro. “A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the perfect play to perform outdoors. The setting in the Italian Sunken Garden at Cannizaro provides the perfect mix of the grandeur of Athens and the magical wood, and it gives the actors plenty of chance to have fun running in and out of the shrubbery! We are so grateful to Merton Council and the Friends of Cannizaro Park for giving us this opportunity.”

Mayhem are best known for producing musicals, however the team behind A Midsummer Night’s Dream have previously produced open air Shakespeare tours all over the UK. Producer, Jon Wade, says “We’ve had some amazing experiences performing in some terrific venues, including darting across the battlements at Caernarfon Castle in North Wales and playing to some huge crowds of holidaymakers in the Lake District. Being based now in South West London, we’re so pleased to be able to bring our outdoor Shakespeare to Wimbledon.” And what about the good old English weather? Jon says “ We intend only to cancel a show if absolutely necessary in extreme weather conditions, in the past we’ve been known to carry on through wind, rain and lots of mud! “ A Midsummer Night’s Dream Cannizaro Park, Wimbledon 19-21 July, 7.30pm £12/£10 (Concessions / MMTC members) Box Office: 020 8679 7614 / www.ticketsource.co.uk/mmtc www.mayhemmusicaltheatrecompany.co.uk Group Ticket Offer - buy 6 tickets, get 1 free (available via telephone bookings) Please bring your own seating or rugs.
