A GROUP of young Muslims from a London mosque based in Southfields have been out on the streets clearing litter.

Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association teamed up with WPCC to help out with litter picks and environmental improvements.

15 Volunteers spent more than an hour with litter-picking on Sunday 15th March in the area around Tibbet's Corner and Wimbledon.

The members were provided #TheBigTidyUp bin bags to help with cleaning the surroundings and to raise awareness about keeping Britain tidy.

Peter Haldane, Wildlife and Conservation Officer at Wimbledon and Putney Commons, said: "A big thanks to these young volunteers with the organisation for helping on the Commons on Sunday. We hope that we can work again together in the future."

Local charity and volunteer co-ordinator for Princes Way area, Nasir Rana said: "Holding events like these are a great way to establish a successful multicultural society.

"As Muslims we are told that cleanliness is an integral part of our Faith. Giving up just one hour can make a huge difference."
