One of Surrey's oldest cricket clubs is preparing for a special anniversary in 2015 by issuing a call for new players to join their ranks in time for the start of winter nets - and now have a new piece of silverware to add to their trophy cabinet.

Merton Cricket Club, based at John Innes Recreation Ground in Wimbledon Chase, are celebrating their 125th birthday this year, and their Fullers League teams are hoping to repeat the success of their 2nd XI who won promotion to the 2nd XI 1st Division last year - only their second year in the League. Preparations start with winter nets at Rutlish School on Watery Lane in Wimbledon, every Wednesday between 7 and 8pm, from January 14th - and new members are invited to attend.

"Merton CC have always been a friendly, accessible and all-inclusive cricket club," said Chairman Richard Ackerman. "Members don't pay any more than £40 a year in subscriptions, and our match and nets fees are extremely low. We're a great club for players of all ages and abilities, and now we've got a successful league side as well."

Anyone wishing to join can either drop into nets should visit the club website, www.mertoncricketclub.co.uk or email secretary@mertoncc.co.uk.
