I am a keen supporter of the concept of Crossrail 2, which should be a boon for the whole borough including Wimbledon, Raynes Park and West Barnes.

It is an opportunity to put local residents within a short journey time of central London and should make Merton even more attractive as a location for new businesses and investment. But speaking to residents in Raynes Park and West Barnes, there are legitimate concerns as to whether local stations are included and any private land will be required.

In order to confirm benefits and hopefully allay any fears, last week I wrote to Michelle Dix, managing director of planning at TfL, to ask for her commitment to Raynes Park and Motspur Park being fully upgraded as Crossrail 2 Stations with ‘step free’ access. I have also asked her for confirmation that investment in any new track and station works will be contained within existing rail land boundaries. I await Ms Dix’s reply and will keep residents informed of progress.
