On the 14th of January at the Health and Older Peoples Scrutiny Panel Labour councillors approved massive cuts to services. Cuts in CH11,12, 13, 20, 21, 24,25 28 amounted to over £1.7 million.
This will mean closing services at All Saint’s and High Path. All Saint’s being a long term closure plan by Labour. Assessment services and residents with high and medium learning difficulties will be targeted.
They will say how do we pay for this?
There will be an additional Government grant this year and one to cover the zero based council tax. There will be £421,000 in the collection fund unused, Agenda 3.22 & 3.23 Additional tax yield £1.7m, improved tax collection rate £187,000, Additional dwellings £482,000, council tax support reduction £686,000. Add to this Labour is sitting on £100m in reserves.
Councillor Suzanne Grocott put up an excellent argument against the cuts, but the new Labour councillors sheepishly followed the whip and the stringent stare of Labour Councillor Peter Mc Cabe. It is a shame they have their snouts in the trough of the people that deserve excellent front line services. Then they will blame everyone other than themselves for poor fiscal management.
