I write to warn those stupid or inconsiderate enough to use mobile phones to talk or text whilst walking on a pavement.

Recent figures recorded over 1,500 injuries were received in the last 12 months caused by people walking and talking or texting.

I myself have to use a mobility scooter as I’m severely disabled following a brain haemorrhage.

Most of my time in the scooter is spent on the pavements of Raynes Park.

It is a common misconception that they are comfortable and easy to drive, as a man who was fortunate enough to have played first class rugby for London Irish.

I’m not exactly small - 16st and 6 ft two bouncing around.

I’m not at all comfortable.

I’ve lost count of the number of emergency turns or stops I’ve been forced to make because of some stopping suddenly to answer a call or while texting.

Mobility scooters aren't exactly fast but should they hit someone the person would suffer an injury possibly hospitalisation. Having myself spent a total of 16months in hospital it’s not an experience I recommend.

I plead with your readers not to talk, text or eat while walking in the UK.

Our NHS is severely stretched - why stretch it even further for the sake of a call, text or a sandwich? I would hate to hit someone but being on a mobility scooter no doubt it would be my fault.
