I am sorry to hear that Honorary Alderman Jan Jones has passed away in Australia.  The former councillor played an important role in the setting up of the then Community Scrap Store now known as the Squirrels (CSS) when it was based at Chaucer Centre in Morden, Surrey.  She was a very energetic, no-nonsense person. I remember when she was mayor, the heyday of the Wimbledon Dons who won the FA Cup. It was a grand thing for her.  She and her husband equally a councillor then in Merton. She came to the store and demanded to have all the purple and yellow (I think) colour available to decorate the streets around Wimbledon. She would not take no for an answer.

She was such a character, loved by many and feared by very few. I would say that even the opposition had a lot of respect for her and I certainly did. I shall say a prayer for her. My condolences to Mr Allan Jones her husband who was equally a supporter of the Scrap Store.

On behalf of the trustees, members, and staff at the Squirrels we say a big thank you. May her soul rest in peace.
