I have noticed that the 24-hour convenience store situated outside South Wimbledon tube station has closed.

It took around a year for the effect of the Tesco store, which opened in the shell of ex-pub The Grove and, no doubt, the Sainsbury`s in Kingston Road, to hit home.

So, thank you to the owner of The Grove for taking the money and closing a viable pub.

There is a valuable lesson to be learnt.

Whilst there is no planning permission required to change the use of a public house to a supermarket, mini or otherwise, the exact opposite would need to happen should an attempt be made to change a supermarket to a pub.
