The Wimbledon Guardian reported that Protect Dundonald Rec (PDR) campaigners claimed the go-ahead for the expansion of Dundonald Primary School was "a disaster for open space in towns and cities throughout the country" (Appeal gives go-ahead for expansion, September 18).

Is it a coincidence that at the time when the Court of Appeal rejected the last of many spurious claims made by this group, a white squirrel appeared (as pictured in your paper) in Dundonald Park?

Perhaps this white squirrel represents a retort to the white lies told by PDR?

The fact, as will be proved when the expansion (which I instigated four years ago) is complete, is that no open space will be lost in Dundonald Park as the expansion will occupy the same space as the footprint of the existing decrepit local pavilion.

The area of the children’s play area will be expand and the number of tennis courts will increase by 50 per cent.

There will be a new community hall for local people accessible direct from Dundonald Road.

Best of all 200 extra local children will be able to attend this outstanding school and not have to travel across the borough for their education.

Perhaps our white squirrel should become the symbol for the new expanded school.
