Following the public meeting on 2nd August about levels of policing and community perception at St. Marks Church, Mitcham, I am writing to remind us all Mitcham’s best resource for positive change, its people and the best way to change challenges that Mitcham town centre faces is always with a positive attitude.

Positive Network Community has organized Mitcham Fair for the last seven years in association with other local groups.

The main aim is to:

•           Bring the local community together

•           Revive local businesses

•           Reduce anti-social behavior

•           Support everyone with their needs whether they have complex needs like depression ill-health, drug or alcohol addition, financial stress or just need a friend.

It is the people and the communities who are changing Mitcham for the better. Mitcham is alive and thriving despite the perceptions to the contrary.

We would like to correct the negative report described by the front page article on the Wimbledon Guardian on 7th August. At the meeting on Saturday 2nd August, people did express concerns to the police regarding the number of betting shops and related activity but this is not a balanced report.

There is undoubtedly a lively, active and positive community in Mitcham.
