As representatives of high street betting shops, we were pleased to be invited to attend the community meeting in Mitcham last weekend (2nd August) and were concerned to hear about issues of anti-social behaviour in the area.
We want our staff and customers to be safe as possible, as do other retailers in the area.
We have already offered to help form a community safety partnership with the other retailers in the area, the police and the council, especially given the report published by Merton Council last year which stated there was no evidence that betting shops in the area were the cause of anti-social behaviour.
This is an issue that needs to be addressed across all business and to be really effective on a partnership basis to identify problems and then tackle them on the basis of evidence and we look forward to working together to put it into place.
