When I stared cycling in London seven years ago it was slower and safe. We obeyed the rules of the road. We and motorists were mutually careful. Simple!
The motorists are the most important safety feature now due to their fear of the consequences of a collision, even if they are completely blameless.
The authorities with organised cycling groups have improved safety hugely, and continue to do so, within reason, funds, time and practicality. Don't blame them.
We cyclists now take more chances, with less and less consideration for our own safety, or the rules of the road and other road users. Speed is now easier to achieve adding to the excitement of cycling and its dangers.
Sadly some of us cyclists lose our lives, as has Laurent Cullinan, but he will be remembered. We cyclists remember our losses more I feel than other groups. Our thoughts are with you.
