I live very close to the cemetery (Complaints over derelict cemetery, July 17) . I look out now on an appalling situation of overgrown grass, not a wild flower in sight.
When were these flowers planted ?
Andrew Judge says that once the wild flowers have gone to seed the grass will be cut.
This does not seem a logical reason to forego grass cutting, as there are no flowers amidst this jungle of undergrowth.
Yes graves are disappearing, among them my great grandparents and a cousin.
It is sad not to be able to visit their graves and pay respect.
I would feel unsafe going into the cemetery now as I would not be visible from the pavement.
I agree with Mr. Tudor that trees are being neglected and the perimeter hedge is now needing cutting as it is coming over on to the pavement and one cannot walk easily along Church Road.
I'm sure if this situation occurred in a Wimbledon cemetery it would not be tolerated by residents and relatives of the deceased.
Why should we in Mitcham be given this lame excuse for the neglect occurring?
I agree with Mr. Coales, it is an attempt by the council to save money.
