I was interested to read the article in the Wimbledon Guardian about the state of church yard in Church Road, Mitcham (Complaints over 'derelict cemetery', July 17). I recently contacted W A Truelove to get my father's grave repaired.
I was contacted by them to say they couldn't find it even though I had given them the plot number.
I had to meet their representative and show him exactly where it was.
This I did after having difficulty following the footpaths which are in a very bad state of repair.
Their representative informed me they couldn't do the work (due to health and safety) until the 3ft - 4ft grass had been cut.
I contacted Merton Council and had a reply on the 19 June saying work was to begin the following week.
Up until today (17 July) they have only managed a minute piece of grass cutting.
I regularly enter the churchyard and I have never seen any wild flowers growing so I am not quite sure how they are going to seed.
I believe this is an excuse for Merton to save money.
Why can't they just be honest and say it?
