I have been living in Mitcham all my life. I know a lot of people who attended Benedict Primary School and not only me but many others have never seen this school in the state that it is in now.

I feel sorry for all the staff in the school as you can see how much hard work they put in for the children, even when they were slated for being a bad school which I one hundred percent disagree with.

When Chapel St took over in January I thought this could be a good beginning for the school to rebuild themselves after everything they have been through.

Well I was totally wrong.

Since taking over from the Merton authority they have tried to build another school which to this day they still haven’t got permanent grounds for.

Why ruin more children’s education when they can’t even help one school, let alone two schools or more?

They have awful communication skills with the parents as we are always unaware of what is happening in the school. Before they took over they said they wouldn’t change the uniform or the logo and they would have a permanent head teacher at the beginning of January.

Well, again, these were total lies as they are changing the uniform and the logo in September.

There was a pathetic meeting to let us know about the new uniform, which we have been told to buy before Christmas but we all know money is tight around this time of year.

They also haven’t even tried to help us by giving us discounts.

I know for a fact if I could choose I wouldn’t be changing the uniform or the logo.

They say they are all for the community but they haven’t even taken the community opinion into account. We were also told to vote for a logo which many people didn’t agree on as the owl symbol has been with the school for more than 20 years.

Since the logo voting has been done we still haven’t heard back from them to let us know what the chosen logo is. This just shows the lack of communication from them.

The head teacher is only an interim which means a new person will be coming in to take her place. What good is this for the children who keep having so many changes to the school? I know that a few classes this year have had more than five different teachers/ teaching assistants and the amount of supplies I see in the school is outrageous.

So, again, how is this good and helpful for the children to improve their education?

I just feel that Chapel St have been disloyal to parents and haven’t once taken the children’s education into consideration.

I am very disappointed how this school has turned out. Once upon a time it was a brilliant school but now I feel likes it’s in the worst place it can be.

I understand change may take some time but unfortunately I can’t see it changing any time soon. I just think they need to support the teachers and children more.

They also need to have better communication with parents so that we know what is happening in the school. I would like to say I think the staff in that school has done a brilliant job after everything they have been through and have helped the children so much.

Isn’t that what it’s all about, having dedicated staff to give the children the best education for their later life?

Everything they do in this school should be for the children not for them to use this school to build their publicity.
