We hear so much bad news especially where elderly people get mugged, burgled or conned but I would like to inform you of something that happened to me.

I am a 74 year old Pensioner and on Thursday 27 February I went to Marks and Spencer and the Sainsbury Superstore in Colliers Wood to do my weekly shop.

Having put all my shopping in the boot of my car drove off home to Morden. On reaching home I reached for my handbag behind my seat and to my horror it wasn’t there.

I looked all around in the car and checked the boot all to no avail, no handbag I realised I must have left it on the shelf in the trolley.

By this time I was in panic mode as my bag contained my purse ,bank and credit cards, mobile phone and numerous other personal items.

I rushed back to Colliers Wood and went to the exact spot where I had parked and the trolley was exactly where I left it but no handbag.

I went into Marks and Spencers and Sainsbury’s to ask if a handbag had been handed in but realistically I didn’t expect it to have been handed in, I also checked with the trolley attendants in the car park.

On the way back to Morden I was going over what to do first and who to contact first, fortunately I had my keys.

On arriving back home I noticed there was a message on my answer phone it was from a young man saying he had my handbag and could I phone him so he could get it back to me.

I phoned the number he left and spoke to his girlfriend who said they had my handbag and could they bring it back to me and asked where I lived.

I offered to go and collect it but the young lady said they knew exactly where I was as she lived in Morden and within 10 minutes they were at my door with my handbag with everything intact.

They had used their initiative and checked my mobile where my home number is listed hence they phoned me.

They were a very young couple and did not want to accept a reward but were just so happy they had got it back to it’s owner.

I was so overcome and broke down in tears I wonder if you could kindly print a thank you to this delightful young couple who have restored my faith in humanity.

If only a few more young people could take a leaf out of their book.
