Thank you for putting the story about Wimbledon Park on the front page and what exciting news about redevelopment plans by the Friends of Wimbledon Park.

People like me who use this park are lucky to have the Friends who work hard to bring positive changes to the park.

And similarly volunteers like Sim Comfort from the Wimbledon Park Heritage Group should be given an OBE for their tireless community work.

But what a shame that the people actually paid to look after this beautiful and historic park do not share the same ethos.

Merton Council’s opportunistic and cynical attempt to deface the Revelstoke Road entrance with a car park lingers on.

They took advantage of Transport for London creating a temporary car park while they worked on the tube line by applying for planning permission to keep it there forever.

Your newspaper said in October that this car park does not have planning permission and should be removed.

But despite the car park now being techinically illegal, it remains there like a massive dog turd welcoming me into the park.

It’s brown, lumpy, no one asked for it and no one wants to clean it up.

So I’d like to give the council a littering fine for the massive dump they’ve taken on my park. They can have a discount if they pay within 14 days.
