I am writing as someone who is very involved in the campaign to save our local hospital.

The biggest problem we face is misinformation. Most people I meet do not realise that this precious resource is still under threat of closure.

The big sign on the front of the hospital, which mentions a £219m investment, is misleading.

The Chief Executive, Matthew Hopkins, will not take it down as it might worry people.

The fact is that there will be NO investment if the Clinical Commissioning Group, chaired by Dr Howard Freeman, accepts the BSBV preferred option of downgrading the hospital.

It could be argued that no final decision has been made, but this is the favoured option of those on the CCG. If the money is not spent on St Helier Hospital it goes back to the Treasury, not to the NHS.

The fact remains that we need our local hospital and losing the A and E dept, Maternity Unit, Paediatric Unit and Renal Unit would negatively impact the health and wellbeing of local residents.

St George's and Mayday hospitals could not possibly cope with tens of thousands of extra patients.

Many elderly or disabled people, or those with young children, could not access these services.

Those with a car will find that parking there is extremely difficult and access by public transport is not easy .

As local residents we need to stand up and make our views known, before it is too late.

Please contact your local MP and your GP and let them know your views.
