Final plans submitted for £21m care centre at former Nelson Hospital

The former Nelson Hospital
After 15 years plans to redevelop the old Nelson Hospital might finally be approved this year.
A final planning application to develop the existing hospital on Kingston Road, in Raynes Park, was submitted by NHS Sutton and Merton in February 2012 - discussions on how to develop the site began in 1998.
If approved, the new £21m Nelson Local Care Centre will provide 50 units of supported housing and allow in-house GPs and consultants to offer outpatient services such as physiotherapy, endoscopy and minor procedures, X-ray and ultrasound closer to communities.
The business case for the care centre has already been approved by the NHS Sutton and Merton Board and is awaiting approval from NHS London, expected in the next few weeks.
The application is expected to be discussed at a planning committee meeting shortly.
