I’ve never been a fan of dressing up, especially when it comes to fancy dress parties. Not sure if it’s because I don’t like drawing attention to myself (ironic I know), think it’s downright silly or believe I’m too cool for school. Whatever the reason, some may argue I’ve may have missed out on some memorable moments during my life so far. Who knows? However, I do recollect there was one occasion when I did throw caution to the wind. Michael and I dressed up as a skeleton and a devil respectively for a Halloween shindig and there we still have photographic evidence as proof. The other day, our children happened to come across the said pictures, to which they simply asked, ‘Why?’

Good question. Why on earth would any of us dress up to potentially make fools of ourselves in a ridiculous costume accompanied by a garish wig and props? All that being said, I do have a confession to make; it was me last Saturday night on Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief on BBC1 all in aid of raising money for Comic Relief. I remember my heart sinking into my boots when I got the call from my friend who is the booker on the show. I mean I couldn’t say no – it was for a great cause and our friendship was on the line! So the group ‘The One Show Reporters’ was born and the rehearsals began. We had to have vocal coaching to try and get a decent tune out of us and also choreography lessons where we were given lots of steps to learn, all fitting round our hectic schedules.

So, I ended up being dressed as Lady Gaga, with a huge blonde wig and a blue leotard and I have to say once the performance was done, because leading up to it I was petrified, I actually quite enjoyed it. I simply channelled my inner pop diva and went for it. Thank you to everyone who voted for us and donated to Comic Relief. We went straight through to the final which will be on this Saturday, which means I’ll have to dress up AGAIN! Who knows, I may become a convert to this dressing up malarkey. Bring on the invites!
