Rosslyn Park will have an U17 team in the top tier of the Surrey leagues for the first time in more than seven years next season.

The squad impressed enough in the U16 division last season to earn themselves a spot among the other top U17 teams in the county.

They have also been chosen as one of four club’s to represent the county at national level, leaving head of youth Dhiren Patel ecstatic.

“I am extremely proud to say Rosslyn Park have been chosen to play in the nationals next season at U17 level,” he told the club’s website.

“We have not had this honour in many years, so you can imagine how much of a big deal this will be for the lads.

“I am sure with the assistance of the club and its resources, these lads will make great steps toward fantastic things.”

Director of rugby Shaun Justice added: “This is another example of the great things that are happening in the junior section of the club.

“There is every chance that, with continued coaching support and hard work, some of these lads will tread the same path as the likes of Nev Edwards, Harry Rowland, Ed Lewis-Pratt and Charlie Gower and force their way into the first XV squad within the next few seasons.”

Meanwhile, the club is to host a family fun day when the Olympic road race – which will see Great Britain’s Mark Cavendish going for gold – goes past their Priory Lane ground in Upper Richmond Road on its way out of London and again on its way back in on July 28.

There will be music from Carron Dawn Wright, a hog roast, a barbecue, kids inflatables and also competitions.

Tickets are £5 or £15 for a family of four in advance, or £7 on the gate and £20 for a family.

They are available from Roehampton Club on 020 8480 4200 and Sheen Sports on 020 8876 7273.
