Injury-hit Tynedale struggled manfully to make a game of it, but Rosslyn Park were a class apart, running out 47-0 winners to remain one point behind National League One leaders Ealing Trailfinders.

The combination of open, running attack and sound defence was just too much for the home side.

Park began the match with an all out assault on the home line, but were penalised. Flanker Harry Broadbent made a run through the middle but was isolated.

At the first scrum the visiting pack asserted themselves to win a penalty. Fly-half Louis Grimoldby kicked to touch to set up another pounding attack.

Tynedale defended well, but eventually had no answer when full-back Nev Edwards combined with centre Dante Mama to send in the other centre, Kiba Richards. Grimoldby added the conversion for 7-0 on 14 minutes.

Richards then combined with winger Charles Broughton to set up another super attack, forcing a penalty that was kicked to the corner.

Park knocked on at the throw but took the resulting scrum against the head only to be penalised for not standing 5 metres back.

Another scrum was destroyed by the rampant Park pack to win a penalty and set up another drive at the line.

However, it was not forward power that prevailed, but a superb dummy from scrum half Luke Carter that saw him dive in under the posts, Grimoldby converting for 14-0 on 19 minutes.

Park were soon back, but this time were pinged for delaying a throw. Tynedale set up a good counter-attack to win a penalty, from which they set up a drive but were penalised for crossing.

Another spirited counter ended with a knock on but they really could not find a way to cause anxiety to the visiting defence.

Another good run by Broadbent put Park back on the attack before a shrewd kick by Grimoldby set up a race, won by Broughton who touched down in the corner on 32 minutes for 19-0. The conversion attempt shaved the near post on the wrong side.

Park managed two further promising attacks before the interval, but first a forward pass, then being penalised meant they went into half-time without the four-try bonus point they desperately needed.

The second half saw Park launch a further foray, but they soon suffered a major blow when full-back Nev Edwards limped off causing a reorganisation with Grimolby dropping back and Scott Sneddon making his comeback from the bench.

Tynedale had probably their best period of the match, though not enough to cause real trouble. By contrast, as soon as Park secured the ball it was flashed outside to Broughton who flew up the wing to score in the corner on 53 minutes for the bonus point. Grimoldby nailed the difficult conversion for 26-0.

Park continued to attack but were persistently getting penalised before they could capitalise on their work. However, three tries in the last 10 minutes set the seal on a good afternoon’s work.

A speculative kick was picked up by Broughton who found replacement scrum half Jack Gash inside him, who sprinted in, converted by Grimoldby for 33-0.

It was forward grunt that set up number night Mike McFarlane to get over, the fly half again nailing a difficult one for 40-0.

With two minutes to go Broughton again lit the after-burners to fly up the wing. He appeared to spurn the opportunity to touch down closer to the posts, as if to say to Grimoldby, “OK – convert that one if you can”. He did, for 47-0.

Park: Edwards; Broughton, Richards, Mama, Ajuwa; Grimoldby; Carter; Lundberg, Bellamy, Liffchak; Treadwell, Bowley; Shires, Broadbent, McFarlane.
